Dan heb je de vraag vast al voorbij zien komen: laat Ripple XRP langzaam los nu het een eigen stablecoin heeft? Dat gerucht zingt al maanden rond in de community. Op Swell 2026, de jaarlijkse conferentie van Ripple, ging topman Brad Garlinghouse er nu zelf op in. Zijn antwoord was duidelijk: nee.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waar komt dat gerucht vandaan?<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Om het gerucht te snappen moet je eerst weten wat RLUSD is. Het is de stablecoin van Ripple: een munt die aan de Amerikaanse dollar gekoppeld is en daardoor nauwelijks in waarde schommelt. E\u00e9n RLUSD moet altijd ongeveer \u00e9\u00e9n dollar waard zijn. RLUSD draait op de XRP Ledger en op Ethereum.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">XRP werkt heel anders. De koers beweegt mee met vraag en aanbod, soms flink. Voor banken en betaalbedrijven die geld over de grens willen sturen, klinkt een stabiele dollarmunt dan al snel aantrekkelijker. En daar zit de angst van veel houders: als klanten liever RLUSD gebruiken, heeft Ripple XRP dan nog wel nodig?<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Garlinghouse: het momentum is juist groot<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garlinghouse veegde dat beeld van tafel. Volgens hem is er geen sprake van dat Ripple XRP inruilt voor RLUSD. Hij ging zelfs nog een stap verder en noemde de vaart rond XRP <a href=\"https:\/\/beincrypto.com\/ripple-ceo-xrp-rlusd-rumors-swell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;profound&#8217;<\/a>, oftewel diepgaand en ingrijpend.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dat is een opvallend stevige uitspraak. Ripple-bestuurders zijn de laatste jaren vaker wat voorzichtiger in hoe ze over XRP praten, onder meer door de lange rechtszaak met de Amerikaanse toezichthouder SEC. Dat de CEO nu zo openlijk achter de munt gaat staan, op het grootste podium dat het bedrijf heeft, zegt dus wel iets.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Twee munten, twee rollen<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Je kunt XRP en RLUSD het beste zien als twee verschillende stukken gereedschap in dezelfde gereedschapskist. Een stablecoin is handig als je geld wilt bewaren of verrekenen zonder koersrisico. XRP is bedoeld als brugmunt: een tussenstap waarmee je snel van de ene munteenheid naar de andere springt, zonder dat er overal geld klaar hoeft te staan.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daar komt bij dat RLUSD deels op de XRP Ledger leeft. Elke transactie op dat netwerk kost een klein beetje XRP aan transactiekosten. Meer gebruik van RLUSD op de XRP Ledger betekent dus ook meer activiteit op het netwerk waar XRP het hart van is. De munten bijten elkaar niet per se; ze kunnen elkaar juist versterken. Wil je beter begrijpen hoe dat netwerk in elkaar zit, lees dan ook <a href=\"\/coins\/watis\/wat-is-xrp\">wat XRP precies is en hoe het werkt<\/a>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waarom houders toch scherp blijven<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is daarmee alle twijfel weg? Niet helemaal, en dat is ook begrijpelijk. Een CEO die zijn eigen munt aanprijst, is natuurlijk geen onafhankelijke stem. Woorden op een podium zijn iets anders dan cijfers over hoeveel XRP er daadwerkelijk door betaalpartners wordt gebruikt.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bovendien groeit Ripple steeds verder uit tot een breed financieel bedrijf, met producten die niet allemaal direct om XRP draaien. Hoe groter dat geheel wordt, hoe vaker houders zich zullen afvragen welke plek hun munt daarin houdt.
